Following an unlawful horse-riding parade in the state’s Gumel Local Government Area, the Jigawa Police Command has verified the d3ath of a palace guard.
According to police sources, the incident happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, when a group of young people, including Ibrahim Gwani and Goni from Gumel town and others who are currently at large, planned an unapproved horseback riding event.
The Emir’s Palace reportedly sent security to disperse the participants after the unapproved parade apparently caused fear in the region.
“Tragically, one of the palace guards, Abdulhadi Mana (Kauran Dogorab Gumel) was knocked down by galloping horses during the attempt to restore order. He was immediately rushed to Gumel General Hospital for treatment, where he was confirmed d3ad,” the police said.
The police added that investigations were ongoing while efforts had been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects connected to the incident.
The command warned against holding public events without due authorisation to avoid breaches of peace and public safety.
