A suspected Oodua People’s Congress member has been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command for reportedly shooting Michael Olaifa, a 17-year-old kid, to death in the Itapo neighborhood of Epe Local Government Area.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command spokesperson, verified that this would be punched on Thursday, May 29, 2025. According to information obtained, the suspect shot the victim on Monday for unknown reasons.
The OPC member, whose name was unknown, reportedly opened fire on the adolescent at around three in the morning, killing him on the spot before escaping the scene.
Aggrieved youths and residents of the community took to the streets in protest, carrying the victim’s corpse from Itapo through major areas of Epe to express their anger and demand justice.
The demonstration was said to have caused tension in the area until security operatives, including the police, intervened. Teargas and warning shots were reportedly used to disperse the crowd.
“A 17-year-old boy was tragically shot d3ad by an OPC member at 3 am in Epe. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident. In response, angry youths and community members took to the streets, carrying the victim’s corpse in a protest from Itapo to highlight their outrage over the loss,” a witness narrated.
“The police and security agencies intervened, using gunshot tear gas to disperse the crowd, and retrieved the corpse, taking it to the hospital for further procedures.”
Hundeyin said the suspect was arrested after a manhunt.
“Suspect arrested and transferred to the SCID,” he added.
