In the state’s Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, the Akwa Ibom Police Command has seized firearms and taken five alleged cultists into custody.
SP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement released in Uyo on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
The PPRO claims that after receiving reliable information, the cultists were apprehended on Wednesday at their hideout in Ikot Etuk village. According to John, officers found a fake single-barrel gun, a locally manufactured pistol, and other charms during the operation.
The suspects have willingly given the police important information about their illegal activity.
“This includes their involvement in a recent attack on Fulani herdsmen, which resulted in the killing of two cows. The stolen cows were reportedly shared among various cult groups within Ibesikpo Asutan,”she said.
John added that efforts were currently underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover their operational weapons.
The spokesperson further stated that developments would be communicated to the public as they unfold.
