Contentious Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known by his stage name Odumodublvck, has responded to those who criticize his distinctive rap style by saying that they are just “intimidated” by his quick ascent and cultural influence.
The Declan Rice hitmaker said that his 2023 breakthrough single is the most culturally significant Nigerian hip-hop tune ever released in a recent interview on The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos.
No Nigerian rap music in the past 20 years, he claimed, has had a comparable worldwide influence.
“Which hip-hop song has had more impact in the last 20 years? In the history of Nigerian hip-hop, no Nigerian song has had more impact in the world like ‘Declan Rice,’” Odumodublvck said. “It is the biggest digital asset on Arsenal Football Club ever on social media. Check it.”
The rapper pointed to the use of Declan Rice by Arsenal to unveil the midfielder’s record-breaking transfer from West Ham in July 2023 as evidence of the song’s wide-reaching influence. He also called out those who question his credentials as a rapper.
“They said I’m not a rapper. That’s a fallacy. That’s ungrateful. And God will punish all of them,” he added.
Odumodublvck further defended his versatility, referencing his recent collaboration with Larry G on Good Devil Wells White and his ability to rap in English, Vernacular, and Patois.
“If aspiring rappers try to sound like me, they often get discouraged by negative comments. But we’ve delivered A1 verses in every language,” he said. “They want to talk down on it because they feel intimidated.”
