The tragic death of a student who fell from a three-story building while under the influence of a hard drug called *mkpurummiri* has left the Nnamdi Azikiwe University community in a state of mourning.
The startling incident happened at a private lodge close to the Royal Kitchen intersection, which is only a short distance from the main gate of the university in Awka, at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Before finding the young man’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood at the base of the structure, witnesses reported hearing a loud crash.
He was sent to a local hospital, but upon arrival, they declared him dead.
Sources within the area confirmed that the deceased had allegedly ingested *mkpurummiri*, a highly dangerous methamphetamine substance that has been linked to erratic and violent behavior among youths.
Investigations also revealed that the victim’s roommate, who was found in a dazed and incoherent state within their shared apartment, may have also consumed the same substance. He has since been taken into police custody for questioning, pending medical evaluation.
The identity of the deceased has been withheld, as authorities are working to contact the family before making any public disclosures.
As at press time, the Anambra State Police Command and the university authorities have yet to issue official statements regarding the incident. However, local residents are calling for stricter monitoring of drug use around student lodges and campuses.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the alarming rise in drug abuse among Nigerian youths, with *mkpurummiri* at the center of many tragic episodes in recent months.
