Blessing Nze, a Nollywood actress, has spoken up about a highly devastating incident in her early acting career when a respected director told her she was “too ugly” to be in front of the camera, a remark that nearly destroyed her goals.
In an interview with Saturday Punch, Nze reflected on her journey through the industry, describing how rejection and harsh comments almost killed her enthusiasm for acting.
“I even remember when a popular director I deeply respected once told me I was too ugly to be in front of the camera,” she recalled. “But look at me now.”
At the time, Nze was still an emerging actress, struggling to secure meaningful roles and recognition in Nollywood. Despite the criticism, she continued auditioning and working behind the scenes, driven by determination and belief in her craft.
Now a familiar face in the industry, she says the same industry that once pushed her aside now celebrates her talent.
In the interview, Nze also addressed ongoing social media chatter about the age difference between her and her husband, fellow actor Stan Nze.
“People just like to exaggerate,” she said. “The age difference is only two years. It was never a topic for us, even while dating. Now that we’re married, we are one. I honour my husband as my priest and father figure. Age is just a number.”
Blessing, who is also a mother, added that online criticism doesn’t faze her. “I see all sorts of comments online and just laugh. What matters most is the love and respect we share.”
