Tragic events have befallen Edo State’s business sector as a local businessman, simply known as Mr. Henry, was abducted and ransomed by his own employees, who then brutally murdered him.
The suspects, who worked for the victim, kidnapped Mr. Henry and demanded ransom from his family, according to the Edo State Police Command. Under the false premise that he was still alive, the kidnappers continued to extort the distraught family while killing him in spite of having received the money.
Five individuals have been connected to the horrible act, according to police confirmation. One of them is Samuel, a 33-year-old Akwa Ibom State native who has allegedly admitted to the kidnapping and killing.
“The suspect admitted to participating in the kidnapping and stated that after collecting the ransom, they murdered the victim,” a police spokesperson said.
In a chilling twist, Mr. Henry’s killers allegedly kept demanding more money from the family even after his death. The victim’s son recounted how the criminals maintained communication and tricked the family into thinking Mr. Henry was still alive.
“One of them told me he could show me where my father’s body was. I sent him more money, hoping to bring my father home,” the distraught son said. “But after the first payment, we never heard from them again. Their numbers went dead.”
The Edo police assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of their investigation and reiterated their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the state, with many expressing concern over the growing trend of betrayal and violence from within trusted circles.
