A terrible incident has shocked Fakir Mohan College in Balasore, Odisha, after a female student burnt herself on fire on campus, allegedly in protest of segxwal harassment by her department head and the institution’s inability to act on her complaint.
The student, who is enrolled in the college’s integrated B.Ed program, sustained 95% burn injuries as a result of the heinous conduct, which occurred on Saturday near the principal’s office during a student-led demonstration.
According to official reports, the victim filed a formal complaint on July 1 accusing the Head of the Education Department, Samir Kumar Sahu, of repeatedly requesting segxwal favors and threatening to jeopardize her academic career if she did not cooperate.
