United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Wema Bank have lifted a five-year prohibition on international transactions on their naira debit cards due to foreign exchange (FX) issues, which is a huge relief for Nigerian bank clients.
Customers can once again use their naira cards for foreign purchases and transactions across a variety of worldwide platforms, the banks announced separately on Friday, July 4, 2025. All of UBA’s Premium Naira Cards, including the Gold, Platinum, and World versions, can now be used for international transactions, the company announced.
The bank said in a client letter that the development is in line with its goal of providing better and more frictionless banking experiences.
