Senator David Mark, Interim Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claims the party has not backed Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, or any other candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Mark, in a statement made in Abuja on Tuesday, denied rumors that the ADC has backed any of the top contenders.
“The ADC has no chosen or preferred candidate,” he informed me. “Our focus now is to build a platform that will appeal to the majority of Nigerians.
” According to the former Senate President, the party’s top aim in 2027 is to safeguard Nigeria’s unity and provide citizens with a legitimate alternative.
“We don’t want this great ship called Nigeria to sink. If we fail to rise up now, we may all go down with it,” he warned.
Mark also responded to criticism by the party’s 2023 flagbearer, Dumebi Kachikwu, who accused the interim leadership of secretly supporting Atiku.
“I don’t own this party more than any of our members,” he said. “All Nigerians must come together and take ownership of the ADC.”
Meanwhile, President Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga, claimed on Tuesday that some political elements were plotting to unseat the President ahead of 2027.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Onanuga described the Tinubu administration as “the most focused and transformative in Nigeria’s history” and warned that enemies of progress were banding together against it.
He also recalled the words of Emir Sanusi in 2022: “If anybody tells you reform will be easy, don’t vote for him.”
