Two people who are allegedly affiliated with a well-known one-chance robbery syndicate in Ibadan have been taken into custody by the Oyo State Police Command. CSP Adewale Osifeso, the spokesperson for the Command, revealed this in a statement released on Wednesday.
He said that the arrest came after a viral video that revealed the suspects’ illegal acts and reliable intelligence.
The statement claims that after the Commissioner of Police ordered a prompt response to the widely shared video of the gang in action, officers from the Command’s Tactical Units were sent in.
“Following the emergence of a viral video exposing the gang’s activities, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, tasked operatives of the Command’s Tactical Units to apprehend the culprits. The teams promptly activated their informant networks and launched an intensive search for the gang members,” the statement read.
The breakthrough came on July 12, 2025, when intelligence led officers to the suspected criminals. At about 3:30 p.m., operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit tracked and intercepted the suspects along the Old Ibadan/Oyo Road.
The two suspects, identified as 42-year-old Kolawole Moshood from Olomoyeye Muslim Area and 45-year-old Opeyemi Kuburat from Beyerunka Area, both in Ibadan, were arrested and taken into custody.
A Nissan Almera with registration number Lagos FST 779 DL, allegedly used for their operations, was recovered during the arrest.
“During the operation, a Nissan Almera vehicle (Registration Number: Lagos FST 779 DL), which was allegedly used by the suspects in their criminal endeavours, was recovered. Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to being key members of a one-chance robbery gang operating in Ibadan and its environs. They further admitted to robbing and deceiving multiple victims using the seized vehicle,” the statement added.
The suspects are currently assisting police with further investigations. So far, three victims have identified them as the individuals who robbed them on separate occasions.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation. To date, three victims have come forward and positively identified them as the perpetrators who robbed them of their valuables on separate occasions. The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other gang members and recover their weapons,” the statement continued.
The police urged other victims of the gang to report and assist in the ongoing investigation.
“We therefore urge other victims of this notorious gang to come forward and assist with the investigation and subsequent prosecution. Your cooperation can play a vital role in bringing more offenders to justice and protecting our communities.
“The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state,” the statement concluded.
