On Sunday, a petroleum tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit overturned and caught fire at Iyana-Isolo, inward Oshodi, Lagos. As reported by KIKISBLOG.COM .NG Online, the fire quickly spread to at least four parked trucks in the area, but swift action by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials prevented a more extensive disaster. As a result, traffic was diverted from Ilasa inward Oshodi, and the scene was cordoned off. Initial investigations by LASTMA revealed that the accident was caused by speeding, which led to the tanker driver losing control.
In a statement confirming the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, revealed that operatives from adjoining zones were mobilised to support the response, collaborating with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Nigeria Police Force (Aswani, Ilasa, and Mushin Divisions), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps. No human casualties were recorded, thanks to the swift intervention of LASTMA operatives and other agencies. The preservation of life and property is at the core of our operations.
