A deadly attack occurred on Thursday evening at about 7 pm, claiming the life of a police officer who was stationed at the house, KIK’IS BLOG REPORTS
Gunmen believed to be herdsmen launched an attack on the residence of Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Frank Mbah, located in Ezimo Community, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening at approximately 7 pm, resulting in the fatal shooting of a police officer who was on guard duty at the residence, as reported by SaharaReporters.
According to community sources who spoke with SaharaReporters, the heavily armed assailants attempted to breach the residence but were thwarted by the security guard.
A community source revealed that “When the security guard raised an alarm, the assailants killed him, took his rifle, and vanished into the bush.
We believe that these assailants are responsible for the murder of a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Mathew Eya, on Friday evening in Eha-Ndiagu, a neighbouring community in Nsukka Local Government Area.
They have successfully kidnapped people on two occasions, very close distance to the house, less than 500 metres from it. There have been constant kidnapping activities around that area, and the perpetrators are believed to be Fulani
They had not committed murder until this recent incident; maybe it is because they were challenged. Our people regularly see those individuals; the people mining sand and gravel regularly encounter them, but you know we have a weak security system.
The perpetrators arrived unexpectedly and shot the security guard, a policeman, when he opened the gate. The assailants disappeared before onlookers could raise the alarm.
They killed the security guard and seized his rifle. It is noteworthy that the residence typically has multiple security guards, but the others appear to have been absent during the attack.
The security personnel at the house did not anticipate the incident.
They retrieved the firearm, and a Reverend Father was tragically killed the following day along Eha-Ndiagu Road in the adjacent community.
We suspect that it is the same network of kidnappers operating within that vicinity.
Consequently, there are severe security threats in those areas. Marauders are prevalent around those areas.
Following the attack, the police arrested a drunken individual who was walking by, suggesting that he could be one of the attackers.
However, community members are aware of the man’s innocence, and it appears that the police are attempting to show that they are taking action.
Another source emphasized that the Ezimo community holds Frank Mbah in high regard and would never harbor malicious intentions towards him.
The Ezimo community and surrounding areas remain on high alert following the attacks.
Despite efforts to contact the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, did not respond to calls or a text message seeking his reaction.
