The Nollywood community is reeling in shock following the tragic demise of Shina, the 24-year-old son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola. Shina’s untimely passing occurred barely a month after completing his NYSC. According to reports, he slipped in the bathroom and was later rushed to a clinic on Monday, September 1, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Mama Peju is experiencing an unutterable loss. Shina was not only her child but also her trusted confidant and constant companion. She often referred to him as “My Happiness,” a name that captured the essence of their special bond. He was always by her side, providing quiet strength and joy in her life, making his sudden passing even more unbearable. News of his death reached the actress while she was on a movie set, leaving her shaken and colleagues and fans in tears. This heartbreaking tragedy comes less than 24 hours after the loss of rising skitmaker Sanku, compounding the sorrow in Nollywood. But for Peju, the grief cuts especially deep — Shina was her only biological child. While she also shares a close relationship with her stepson, actor Sukanmi Omobolanle, through her husband, Sunday Omobolanle, Shina’s death has left a void that can never be filled.
Tributes have been flooding social media from Nollywood stars and fans since the news broke. Funke Akindele wrote: “No mother should ever bury her child. My heart breaks for Mama Peju. May God comfort you.” Femi Adebayo described the loss as “unimaginable,” saying: “We stand with you in this dark hour. Nollywood mourns with you.” Faithia Williams added: “I’m struggling to come to terms with this news. Mama Peju, may the Lord give you strength to survive this pain.” As condolences continue to pour in, one thing is certain: Shina’s memory will forever live in the heart of the woman who always called him her happiness.
