Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reacted to the difficulties faced by Oba Joseph Oloyede Apetu of Ipetumodu town who is serving a jail term in the United States of America for fraud.
According to reports, Adeleke instructed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to address the situation of the jailed monarch, as some Ipetumodu natives called for the replacement of the vacant stool.
Adeleke issued the order on Friday during the State Executive Council meeting.
According to the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor found the development ugly and called for prompt action.
As a reminder, U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko had instructed the traditional ruler to serve three years of supervised release upon completing his prison sentence and pay $4,408,543.38 in restitution.
As stated by the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio on August 26, 2025, Oloyede purportedly led a conspiracy to exploit COVID-19 emergency loan programmes created to assist struggling businesses.
Following the judgment, the town has been characterized by an uneasy calm, with the princes insisting that the state government should decide on replacing Oba Oloyede.
Some kingmakers were said to have resisted the demand for the removal of the embattled monarch.
