The action was taken to draw the attention of the state government to the grievances they have regarding the new Consolidated Health Salary Structure.
The Zamfara State chapter of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANM) has initiated a six-day warning strike across state-owned general hospitals.
According to the union’s Chairman, Sani Shehu, the action was taken to draw the state government’s attention to the grievances of its members concerning the new Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
He clarified that although the state government approved a new salary structure for Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in June, the CONHESS structure was overlooked.
Shehu observed that the union had undertaken several follow-ups and engaged with the government until August, but to no avail.
In the wake of the union’s seven-day warning strike, which began on September 11 and was suspended after 24 hours due to government intervention, the union leader has declared the resumption of the suspended strike.
The union’s members are slated to observe the remaining six days, starting on Saturday and culminating on the following Tuesday.
Should the union’s demands not be met within this six-day timeframe, an indefinite strike will be initiated.
