In a recent enforcement action, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) sealed off Adeola Ade Plc, a petrol station situated along Owode-Apa Road in Badagry, Lagos State, through its Operation Whirlwind unit.
The station was subsequently handed over to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for further regulatory measures. As stated by Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Kola Oladeji, National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, the action was taken due to the station’s failure to comply with operational standards and regulations governing petroleum retail businesses in Nigeria.
The action followed credible intelligence and a detailed investigation conducted by the unit on October 4, 2025, which confirmed multiple infractions at the facility.
“Our operatives acted in accordance with the law and our mandate to sanitize the downstream sector.
The sealing was executed professionally and transparently,” he stated. He reaffirmed that Operation Whirlwind remains dedicated to purifying the petroleum distribution chain, safeguarding consumers, and upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.
“This handover serves as a strong warning to all operators that non-compliance will not be tolerated.
Continued collaboration among enforcement agencies will fortify regulation and accountability in the sector,” Oladeji added.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the NMDPRA, Ivy Agboselobo, Head of Retail Infrastructure, commended the Customs Service for its professionalism and assured that fitting sanctions would be imposed on the erring station in accordance with regulatory provisions.
