According to Innocent Idibia, aka 2Face, a renowned Nigerian musician, ‘African Queen’ is the song that catapulted his career, and it also remains one of the songs he resonates with the most.
He pointed out that the song has been a burden despite its huge benefits.
2Face made this remark in a recent episode of the Entertainment & Lifestyle show.
African Queen has been a significant blessing for me, albeit with its share of challenges.
Nonetheless, I remain grateful for everything,” he stated.
African Queen, released in 2004, catapulted 2Face to international fame, as he became the first African artist to win the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards.
However, controversy surrounds the song’s authorship, with Blackface, 2Face’s former bandmate, repeatedly claiming that 2Face stole the song from him.
2Face previously admitted in an interview that ‘African Queen’ originated as a collaboration with his former bandmates, but denied claims of theft.
The song has been embroiled in controversy for over twenty years, with renewed debate following Billboard’s declaration of it as the ‘greatest Afrobeats song of all time’ in August 2025.
