Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, has advocated for a collaborative approach to protect education and ensure the safety of schools across the country, highlighting its crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
Mrs.Tinubu, an educator and former teacher, made this appeal on Tuesday in her commemorative message for the 2025 International Day to Protect Education from Attack.
The News Agency of Nigeria states that the theme for this year’s observance is “Challenging Narratives, Reshaping Action.”
The First Lady notes that this theme is a rallying cry to move beyond words and take concrete, decisive steps to ensure the safety and security of learners, teachers, and educational institutions nationwide.
“The theme invites us to transition from words to stronger actions aimed at protecting education,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu highlighted that education must never be compromised, noting that a society that neglects to protect its schools puts its own future at risk.
Education serves as the foundation of hope, and preserving it secures our future prospects.
“I applaud organisations such as UNICEF, UNESCO, and the Education Above All Foundation for their dedication to advancing child education globally, ” she said.
While praising the efforts of the security agencies, the first lady, however, appealed to them to do more in protecting schools.
“In Nigeria, our security agencies are doing their best, but protecting schools must remain a shared national priority.”
