As reported by PM Express, Halimat Jubril, a 24-year-old woman, was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after being found with a fabricated Beretta pistol along the Lagos Badagry Expressway.
The arrest occurred on the ECOWAS corridor in the Badagry area, where a Police Tactical Team on routine patrol stopped her. Halimat reportedly failed to provide a valid explanation for possessing the weapon and denied being an armed robber, but could not explain why she had the pistol on a major highway.
As reported by PM Express, police sources indicate that Halimat, in collaboration with several others who remain at large, is suspected of conspiring to unlawfully possess a firearm, which was discovered when she was intercepted.
Subsequently, she was taken into custody at the State Command for questioning.
Following the completion of their investigation, the police found her culpable and charged her at the Ogba Magistrate Court with conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm, offenses carrying several years of imprisonment under Lagos State laws.
One of the charges alleged that on September 20, 2025, at approximately 1130 hours, along the ECOWAS highway in the Lagos Magisterial District, Halimat and others at large conspired to commit a felony involving unlawful possession of a firearm.
Another count accused her of having a fabricated Barretta pistol without lawful authority, contrary to the Firearms Act.
Her plea was not taken as the prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, requested that the matter be referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O Kusanu, granted the request and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the DPP.
She also directed that Halimat be remanded in custody pending the DPP’s advice.
The case was adjourned to allow the DPP’s report to be ready, which will determine whether the matter remains at the Magistrate Court or is transferred to the High Court for proper jurisdiction.
