In protest of the frequent robberies at their hotels, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi students have gone to the streets. After robbers took students’ devices and left them with multiple injuries, the protest started early on Tuesday.
According to Vanguard, the attack happened at night while the students were asleep. The irate students informed reporters that they were protesting because the Polytechnic administration had not stepped in to address the security issue.
As suspected criminals attempted to take over the demonstration, tensions increased and the federal highway close to campus was blocked. Some students retaliated with stones as police used tear gas to disperse the throng, but they were eventually overpowered.
SUG President Haruna Umar condemned the attack, calling it the first of its kind in the institution’s history.
“This is students showing their grievances to management and authorities,” he said.
