Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, dismissed reports on Friday indicating that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is “pushing” him to run for the presidency in 2027.
Wike dismissed the report as “an additional falsehood perpetuated by idle minds lacking substantial ideas for national progress”.
His spokesman, Lere Olayinka, stated that “as far as Wike is concerned, the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu will extend until 2031”.
He stated that it was disconcerting that the “pull Wike down” elements could not devise strategies beyond such infantile tactics, adding that it was apparent they required more sophisticated minds to guide their thinking.
According to the statement: “A report disseminated by an online platform known for its propensity to spread falsehoods and blackmail, alleging that a meeting was convened by some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to “push” the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to run for President in 2027, has been described as “another fabrication emanating from idle minds devoid of constructive ideas for national progress.
“Wike’s approach is characterized by transparency, as his actions are consistent with his declarations.”
The Minister has clarified his stance regarding the 2027 Presidential election, affirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Olayinka explained that the sole meeting held on August 20, 2025, was attended by PDP stakeholders from Southern Nigeria, with the purpose of discussing the scheduled meeting in Lagos on August 21, 2025, intended to rubberstamp a decision to micro-zone party positions zoned to the South.
A press statement titled ‘Re: Purported Meeting Of PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit,’ signed by State Party Chairmen of Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, Barr.
Venatuis Ikem, Rt. Hon Aniekan Akpan and Aaron Chukwuemeka respectively, as well as the National Vice Chairman (South-East), Hon.
Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon O. K. Chinda, announced the outcome of the meeting.
Among the signatories of the press statement were Senators Igwe Nwagu, Mao Ohuabunwa, George Sekibo, Mike Ama Nnachi, former National Secretary, Rt. Hon.
Onwe S. Onwe, Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, former Ebonyi State Legal Adviser, Barr.
Mudi Erhenede, and others. Clearly, these names were extracted from the press statement published in major newspapers and aired on national television stations to promote the latest mischief.
We understand their intentions, though. Regrettably for them, and the platform they are exploiting to spread their unfounded plots, the FCT Minister’s person and character are familiar to all – he does not operate in secrecy.
He has unequivocally stated that from now until 2031, his position will align with the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
To guarantee the President’s reelection victory, Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT, materializing the President’s vision for a federal capital city that can compete with other leading capital cities worldwide in terms of infrastructure.
