ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has hailed the release of 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists from a school in Maga, Kebbi State, last Monday.
The girls were kidnapped at dawn on November 17, shortly after a military detachment left the school premises.
According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) on Tuesday, Tinubu pointed out that their release occurred amid a surge of copycat kidnappings in other states, including Eruku in Kwara State and Papiri in Niger State.
On Sunday, all 38 abductees in Eruku were freed, and in Niger State, 50 missing Catholic school students were reunited with their families.
President Tinubu praised the security agencies for securing the students’ release and urged them to intensify operations to rescue any remaining captives.
“I am relieved that all 24 girls are accounted for. We must now urgently increase our presence in vulnerable areas to prevent further kidnappings.
My government will provide all necessary assistance to achieve this,” the President said.
The Federal Government has reconfirmed its pledge to protect students and vulnerable communities from terrorist attacks, vowing continued support for security operations across affected regions.
