Junior Chamber International (JCI) Festac has inaugurated Amb. Richard Igwu as its new president during the organisation’s 19th Convention and 20th Investiture Ceremony. The event reaffirmed JCI’s mission of providing leadership development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change, while emphasizing that Nigerian youths remain the nation’s future drivers of progress.
Speaking during a media chat, President Igwu expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to serve with dedication and purpose. “I fully accept this responsibility with an unwavering commitment to serve,” he said. “This marks more than a transition — it is a new beginning rooted in bold vision. I appreciate our past leaders who have strengthened this organisation and laid a solid foundation for us.”
He added that his administration will prioritize leadership development, impactful community projects, and sustainable outcomes. “Leadership is not a title; leadership is service, vision, and influence. My tenure will focus on creating opportunities, documenting our impact, and leading with courage. I stand here not as someone who knows it all but as someone who believes in what we can achieve together.”
Igwu emphasized unity, transparency, and excellence as key pillars of his leadership approach. “Let us work together to build a future that reflects the values and vision of this organisation,” he said.
Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Soaring Beyond Limits: Rising for Impact,” Adenrele Onikosi, CEO of Conegelics Consulting International Limited, highlighted the immense potential of Nigeria’s youth population. According to him, Nigeria’s 70 million young people represent the nation’s most powerful engine for future development.
He encouraged youths to embrace self-belief, skill development, and problem-solving mindsets. “Every nation has its challenges, but within those challenges lie opportunities,” Onikosi said. “Skills will always trump certificates. The real question is: What problem can you solve? Nigeria has many — and each one is a chance for young people to make a difference.”
He urged young Nigerians to look inward, identify sectors in need of solutions, and contribute meaningfully rather than dwell on complaints. “Different sectors have different challenges. Which one will you choose to solve?” he asked.
With the installation of its new president, JCI Festac says it will continue to champion leadership capacity-building, youth empowerment, and initiatives that drive positive community transformation.
