Following their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, Benin coach Gernot Rohr has expressed admiration for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
As Osimhen’s former coach on Nigeria’s national team, Rohr is pleased to witness the Galatasaray star’s transformation into a world-class striker.
Furthermore, Rohr wishes the former Napoli star the best of luck as he represents Nigeria in the World Cup playoffs.
Rohr witnessed Osimhen’s hat-trick and a goal from Frank Onyeka as Nigeria secured a 4-0 victory against the Benin Republic in Uyo.
“We made an effort, but when you have a player of Osimhen’s caliber,” Rohr stated in his post-match interview.
“I recall introducing Osimhen to the team at 17, in our inaugural match against Tanzania here, and he was already part of our selection.”
I am delighted to see him perform exceptionally well, but I am disappointed that he achieved this feat against me. Nevertheless, I hope he can replicate this success in the playoffs for your country, which I have great affection for.
